Front garden: Balaclava
Our (somewhat challenging!) brief was for a low-maintenance garden that needed minimal watering, with a design that reflected our preference for Moorish/north African colonial landscaping. It also needed to complement the facade of our two-storey Victorian terrace and we were adamant that we did not want the cottage/rose type of garden that tends to proliferate in gardens belonging to heritage homes. Despite the potential challenges of such a specific brief, Matt came up with a garden design that far exceeded our expectations.
Most importantly, the realisation of the design was and remains even better than we could have imagined. Matt and his teams approach to the work was fantastic. No problem was insurmountable, and they were an absolute delight to have around. Their attention to detail was admirable, and that dedication
to the job is borne witness by the current state of the garden, which is absolutely flourishing and looks even better now than when it was first constructed.
Matt carefully selected and built all the elements in the garden, from the framework of the garden beds (which are so well constructed that they will most likely outlive the house!), to the choice of pavers and of course the plants, plus the inclusion of a beautiful, subtle water feature. The result is a superb outdoor space that not only attracts comments from innumerable passers-by, but most of all gives us enormous joy every time we walk through it.
And it is, indeed, low-maintenance. We have only had to add water in the heat of the summer, and only then when there hasn’t been any rain for a week, and I doubt whether we have weeded or pruned it more than half a dozen times in the last twelve months. It has added immeasurably to the visual appeal of our house, which is a real achievement given the challenges posed by designing a garden for such a small space juxtaposed by a tall, narrow building.

Following major renovations to our house, the garden was ruined. We were able to design a brand new garden keeping those plants that were still salvageable and Matthew introduced new plants that satisfied or were consistent and complimentary to our wish list.
We found Matthew easy to talk to, listened to what we wanted and was able to give good advice as to the suitability of different plants as well as offering good or better alternatives.
We found that they were reasonably priced and prompt in their service. They worked long hours and as a result finished the job quicker than expected. They left the pathways clean and neat every night.
The finished product was beyond our expectations and quite stunning. The after service has still remained efficient.
We would like to thank Matthew and his team for their efforts, leaving us with a garden that we are quite proud of.
